I have just spend a great 5 days with Jim and Mikey from Seattle. Our first two days were spent enjoying the Splendours of the Cape Peninsular and exploring the beautiful Wine lands.
The animal life at Cape Point did not disappoint, we saw a herd of Eland, lots of Ostrich and the Baboons were in fine form, riding on top of vehicles and entertaining everyone.
Mikey wanted to know what my favourite wines were, so I took them to all my favourite wine farms which produce some of my favourite wines and as it turned out, we have very similar tastes in wine and they both loved their wine tour which featured Hidden Valley, Annandale, Klein Zalze and Delaire. They were blown away by the mixture of beautiful scenery and history, modern and very old architecture and really lovely wines (not to mention the great lunch on the banks of the river at Die Oewer!)
The next three days were spent on the Garden Route. The scrubby vegetation and amazing geology on the way to Oudtshoorn was a great source of fascination. They just loved the hospitality, décor and cuisine at The Thorntree Country House and were amazed by the awe inspiring Cango Caves.
The change in scenery as we moved down to the Coast was something they commented on and the highlights of that day were: Victoria Bay (my secret gem!), Plettenberg Bay Beach, the Knysna Heads and Sundowners at Simola.
It was a sad moment when we parted company as they boarded the boat to take them to Featherbed Bay which is a ‘must see’ on any Garden Route tour. I left them happy in the knowledge that they had an awesome experience of Cape Town and the Garden Route and with a funny feeling that they will be back!
